$5,500

Option One: Self Pay

For families without medical insurance or those choosing not to use medical insurance this option allows for personal flexibility and offers ~30% discount.

Individual payment plans are encouraged and accepted — we trust that you know your family’s moving pieces best and can decide how best to meet this financial investment in your pregnancy and birth journey.

Obstetric billing through insurance is billed as a package, rather than a collection of individual services. This package is called the “Global Fee” and includes prenatal care, labor and birth, postpartum, and initial newborn care. The Global Fee does not include labs, ultrasounds, birth pool rentals, birth certificate copies, and doula services. We offer a discounted Global Fee for self-pay clients.

For families who reside outside the standard service radius (1hr car travel time from Rochester), a $25 call out fee will be added for each service rendered at home.

Option Two: Insurance Billing

(Includes religious cost-sharing groups)

*Starting in February 2026.

Rochester Community Midwives bills insurance as an Out-of-Network provider on your behalf as a courtesy service. We work with a billing group called Midwives Advantage.

This package is called the “Global Fee” and includes prenatal care, labor and birth, postpartum, and initial newborn care. The Global Fee does not include labs, ultrasounds, birth pool rentals, birth certificate copies, and doula services.

Clients using insurance are asked to make a 60% deposit (pre-pay) towards the Global Fee. If your insurance makes a payment towards the total fee that exceeds the pre-paid amount then Rochester Community Midwives will reimburse the client with the money collected from the insurance company.

The true cost of care is much higher than $7,500 which is why we bill insurance groups a higher price that is comparable to birth center delivery. You, the client, will never be asked to pay more than $7,500 regardless if your insurance does or does not make a payment.

Because insurance may cover 0% - 100% of the Global Fee, Rochester Community Midwives reserves the right to charge the full fee amount, without discount, and collect as much as the insurance company will pay, even if that payment is greater than $7,500.
