Birth Classes

now with a Postpartum Add On Hour!

Recurring monthly birth and postpartum classes for families preparing to birth at the hospital or home. Recommended to take each class in the 2nd or 3rd trimester.

The Better Birth Class focuses on understanding birth as a normal physiological process that bodies and babies are made for! We will discuss what to expect and learn how to best prepare the mom’s body and encourage baby into an ideal position. We end each class with a guided visualization for pelvic floor relaxation (using specially-made pelvic floor heating pads) to learn how to gently push and reduce tearing. This class is best for families who want to DO something to prepare for a better vaginal birth!

Class Fee $40 per person

Pelvic Floor Heating Pads available for purchase, $30 each

The Better Postpartum ADD ON HOUR is a condensed detour into postpartum, hosted before the Better Birth Class begins. The postpartum period is the only thing we actually have true control over and so few give it any thought! You'll be sleeping less, leaking more, and falling in love -- a lot is going on! With the right preparation and support, postpartum can be the best part of life. In this add on hour, we discuss normal expectations and body changes in the postpartum period, how to prevent postpartum mood disorders, how to prepare your house and family, and how best to  utilize the necessary help that friends, family, and community can provide.

Class Fee $20 per person

2021 Study Finds Home Birth Safe and Better

A new study out of Washington state demonstrates that individuals with low-risk pregnancies who plan a community-based birth--either at home or in a freestanding birth center--can achieve better outcomes for themselves without compromising safety for their newborns.

  • 10,609 low-risk births attended by licensed midwives for a planned home or birth center birth resulted in a 94% spontaneous vaginal birth.

  • The overall cesarean rate was 4.7% for births with a licensed midwife. This is an extremely low rate compared to the national rate of 31.8% in a hospital setting (March of Dimes, 2020).

  • The rate of stillbirth and neonatal death in this cohort was low (0.57 stillbirths/neonatal deaths per 1,000 deliveries), identical to the rate that ACOG has cited as a benchmark for low-risk birth, and comparable to other countries where home birth is well-integrated into the health system.
